Ministry Q&A

Q: What scripture version do you prefer?
A: I prefer the NIV because of how well it reads.
Q: Where did you study and what were your favorite seminary classes?
A: I have my Masters of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary. While they were two of my tougher classes, my favorite classes were my inductive Bible study classes. They have been the most helpful when it comes to preparing Bible studies and sermons.
Q: Favorite topic to preach on?
A: My favorite topic that I have done recently was a series on the Old Testament names of God. It forced me to preach on books and passages I don't normally use when preaching.
Q: Favorite scripture?
A: My favorite passage is Proverbs 3:5-6. It is a great reminder that God is infinite and I am not.
Q: Favorite Christian writers?
A: I always love going back to John Wesley's sermons and journals. Lately, I have enjoyed Kevin Watson and his books on discipleship.
Q: Describe your preaching style?
A: My preaching style is excellent (haha!) Seriously though, I generally do my best to preach in such a way that God's revelation through Scripture is the foundation of every sermon. There is, however, only one way to really find out my preaching style... come and see (haha!)
Q: What are you looking forward to most about serving CPMC?
A: I have loved hearing about CPMC's rich history of ministry since the very beginning. I am looking forward to joining God's ministry through the laity and staff at CPMC.
Q: What ministries are you most excited about creating or continuing?
A: I am so excited to continue to learn about the great ministries that already exist at College Place Methodist Church. As a pastor, I love leading a discipleship ministry in which Christians grow as disciples so they, in turn, are used by God to help other people grow as disciples. The great thing is that this involves ministries that already exist within the church.
Q: Favorite hymn?
A: My favorite hymn from a sentimental level is Amazing Grace because that is the hymn I remember singing at my Mom's funeral. My favorite hymn for worship is Holy, Holy, Holy. It is a beautiful description of the greatness of God.
Q: Favorite praise song?
A: My favorite praise song is Goodness of God. Similarly to Holy, Holy, Holy, Goodness of God is my favorite praise song because it points worship straight to God.
Meet the Websters
Hi everyone, my name is Jake Webster and I have the privilege of being your pastor at College Place Methodist Church beginning on June 29. I have been in full time ministry my entire working life beginning in youth ministry out of college and transitioning to pastoral ministry 10 years ago. I was born and raised in Tifton, Georgia, and then moved to the Atlanta area in high school. I went to the University of Georgia for college and I root for my Dawgs in everything! I enjoy watching and playing sports, although age is starting to catch up with me (Haha). My big hobby right now is pickleball. I have been playing for about a year now, and it is a lot of fun and a great way for me to try and get in shape. I am looking forward to living on the coast because my family and I love the beach.
My wife Kathryn wanted to say hi as well… “My name is Kathryn Webster, and I grew up in North Georgia. I am incredibly happy to be married to Pastor Jake. We have known each other since high school and were in fact high school sweethearts. I knew he was "the one" at first sight. I majored in Vocal Performance at the University of Georgia and have had the pleasure of singing in all kinds of different groups from the Atlanta Symphony Chorus to a folk duo that toured in the United States. I thoroughly enjoy worshipping the Lord, creating music, and teaching music lessons. In my free time, I relax by reading, taking walks outside, occasional gardening, cooking/baking, and have been known to crochet when inspiration strikes. Church family is a gift from God. Thank you for praying for us, loving us, and welcoming us. We are thankful to come to College Place as we nestle into Brunswick. Our home. We look forward to spending a lot of time outdoors in the fresh air and sunshine as we create new memories together. We are praying for you. What a joy it will be to meet you all!”
Kathryn and I have two kids. Our 7-year-old daughter’s name is Jennie and our 2-year old son’s name is Jacob. They are so much fun and love to have fun. Jennie loves the arts. She dances in a dance troupe, takes art lessons, and loves to join her mom in singing and playing in church. She is also a great older sister to Jacob. Jacob is a ball of energy who loves to play and cuddle. He loves to throw and kick a ball, and I have the broken picture frames as proof. While he loves to throw and kick, his favorite thing to do is wrestle and his special move is a flying elbow drop from the headboard. They are looking forward to being on the coast because they love the beach too. Jennie loves the ocean waves and Jacob loves to play in the sand.
We are all looking forward to being with you very soon!
